The three minute walk

As I rushed to get out of office I found him blocking my way. It was the usual rush time where every second counted. He was busy with his smartphone which was really annoying and I was about to interrupt him with the polite "Excuse me" when I stopped. He was unconsciously murmuring a song. It was the antara from Dheere dheere chal chaand gagan mein. I didn’t feel like interrupting his unconscious business so decided to take a time hit and walk behind him. The walk was approximately 3-4 minutes till we reached the parking lot. He ended up crooning the whole song. Not an accomplished singer but had his own individual and beautiful style.

I wonder if he really realized that he had sung the full song because he was glued to his phone. If not, well, what a loss! The three minutes, as I walked quietly listening to a beautiful song, I was thinking that life has its moments but we are too busy to notice. I don’t even remember how the rest of my day went but I remember the moment when I decided to not run and listen to a total stranger crooning. If one can really sing unconsciously....guess life is not that complicated ;)

Song

For someone who appreciates words I find only noise around. And hence I always miss the soulful songs that many new movies offer.

Raahon ko badal daalein
Aahon mein asar toh hai
Banti hai bigadti hai
Taqdeer magar toh hai
Saagar mein kahin apni
Koi ek leher toh hai

A beautiful antara from a lovely qawalli - Daata Di Diwani  in Youngistaan ;) Listen to the song here.

A nice song

Songs are brilliant. You may start liking one after a certain situation in life, one can be your favorite for your lifetime. Some convey your expectations in just about the right way. Some manage to pep you up when no one can manage to do so.

This one is an old Lata di number. Brilliant composition by Gulzaar ji and the music is  Hemant da. The meaning is so deep and everything about it is to my liking.

The mukhda is so apt -

Hamne Dekhi Hai Un Aankho Ki Mehekti Khushboo
Haath Se Chhoo Ke Ise Rishton Ka Ilzaam Na Do
Sirf Ehsaas Hai Ye, Rooh Se Mehsoos Karo
Pyar Ko Pyar Hi Rehne Do, Koi Naam Na Do

Humming.......

Sunte the hum yeh zindagi
gham aur khushi ka mel hain
humko magar aaya nazar, yeh zindagi woh khel hain
koi sab jeete, sab koi haar de
apni toh haar hain
yaar mere.....haan yaar mere....

sach mere yaar hain
bas wahi pyaar hain
jiske badle mein koi toh pyar de
baaki bekar hain yaar mere ...haan yaar mere

Song

One of my all time favourite anatara (urdu for the middle stanza) -

Barbadiyon ka shok manana fizul tha...
manana fizul tha....
barbadiyon ka jashna manata chala gaya....
har fiqra ko dhooein mein udata chala gaya...

Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya
har fiqra ko dhooein mein udata chala gaya...

Soccer fever

The soccer fever seems to have caught the young and the old like :) What got me into the groove, however, was the promotional song for the 2010 FIFA world cup. K'naan's waving flag seems to be just right for the event. The mood, the tempo all fit beautifully and creates a beautiful melody. Yeah, they have modified the original song to remove the dark portions of the lyrics and its rightly called the 'Celebration Mix'.

Give me freedom, give me fire,
give me reason, take me higher
See the champions, take the field now,
you define us, make us feel proud
In the streets our heads are lifting, as we lose our inhibition,
Celebration, it surround us, every nations, all around us

When I get older I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a wavin’ flag
When I get older I will be stronger
They’ll call me freedom, just like a wavin’ flag.......

p.s. Check the original song here.

Peppy track

My mind had been thinking so hard since yesterday that I was in a state of despair when i got up in the morning. No matter what i did, I just felt hopeless. In this state I got to hear an old hindi pop track. Years after it was released, I think it is still peppy (I can see my hubby frowning on my choice).....but i am out my blues with 'que sera sera' attitude ;) all thanks to this song

usne joh kahan tune bhi suna
yeh baat aur kisko na batana....

Pakistani singer Hassan Jahangir had barged into the music scene with that song and years later it probably still rocks all parties and dance floors.....
