Changing times

Nitish is back in power in Bihar, the Left have been routed in Bengal and Patnaik is all smiles in Orissa. South Block remains Manmohan's stronghold for the next 5 years. Looks like finally democracy is starting to make sense! The electorate seems to have rejected anything and anyone that had no future and was incapable of standing on its own. Too huge a statement but look carefully at the 2009 election results and it’s correct.

Statements, allegations, deals flew thick and fast just before the elections. Everyone seemed to have an air of arrogance and importance. And now what do we see? Unconditional support to a rival to keep the secular forces out (Don’t they make a mockery of our system??). Accepting mistakes when just a few days back you were roaring about something called the 3rd front. The common man seemed to have humbled every politician. Although the likes of Meera Sanyal, etc lost out overall democracy won!

Two successive upper circuits in these dire financial times, a clear mandate to atleast some party, divisive politics shown the door and the LTTE losing ground in Sri Lanka.......times are really changing...and for the good, so it seems!

Surely Nitish is a man to look for in the future. There is a thing that well-meaning people like Arun Bhatia and Meera Sanyal should take into note. It's not enough to jump in into the fray at the last moment, some track record needs to be there. Why wouldn't one vote for a Suresh Kalmadi, who has brought about some change - maybe he has helped himself in the process too.
